Terms of Use, Safety Tips & Privacy
Version 2026-10. Please read this before you buy, sell or chat on CampusMarket.
1. What CampusMarket is (and is not)
CampusMarket lets students list items and services and message each other. We are not a buyer, seller, agent, broker, escrow agent, payment provider or delivery service, and we are not a party to any agreement between users. We do not own, check, store or ship anything listed.
2. Payments and delivery
- All payments are made directly between buyer and seller, outside CampusMarket. CampusMarket never receives, holds, transfers, refunds or reverses money.
- Prices, condition, delivery, returns and refunds are agreed only between the buyer and seller. We cannot recover money sent to anyone and cannot mediate payment disputes.
- You are responsible for deciding whether to trust another user, and for any loss from a transaction.
3. Safety tips
- Inspect first, pay after. Don't pay for an item you haven't seen and tested. Be very careful with "pay a deposit to reserve it".
- Meet in a public, busy place on campus, ideally with a friend and in daylight.
- Check that the bank account name matches the seller. Confirm money has actually arrived in your own banking app; screenshots and SMS alerts can be faked.
- Never share your PIN, OTP, card details or passwords. No genuine buyer or seller needs them.
- Be wary of prices that are too good to be true, pressure to act fast, requests to move to another app before you've seen the item, and buyers who "overpay" and ask for change back.
- For phones, laptops and other valuables, check the serial/IMEI and ask for proof of ownership. For services, agree the scope and price in writing (chat) before work starts.
- Report suspicious users or listings with the report button. If you've been defrauded, tell your bank immediately and report to the police.
4. Accounts and conduct
- You must give accurate information and keep your login secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- You must not use CampusMarket for fraud, fake or stolen goods, illegal, counterfeit or dangerous items, harassment, spam, or anything that breaks the law.
- Sellers are solely responsible for their listings being truthful, lawful and theirs to sell, and for honouring what they agree with buyers.
- Any "verified" or similar badge only means a sign-up check was completed. It is not a promise that a user is honest or that a listing is genuine.
- Reviews are the opinions of users, not of CampusMarket.
5. Reports and enforcement
We may remove listings, hide reviews, suspend or delete accounts, and keep records (including messages and sign-up details) where we think these Terms are being broken or the law requires it. We may share information with the police or other authorities when lawfully requested or to prevent fraud. We are not obliged to monitor all content and may not catch everything.
6. No warranty and limits on our liability
CampusMarket is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind about users, listings, quality, safety, legality or availability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, CampusMarket and its owners are not liable for any loss, scam, fraud, theft, injury, non-delivery, defective goods or dispute arising from dealings between users or from content posted by users. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
7. Your responsibility to us
If your listings, messages or conduct cause a claim against CampusMarket, you agree to be responsible for that claim to the extent permitted by law.
8. Privacy
- What we collect: the details you give at sign-up (name, email, phone, university and, for sellers, shop and matric details), your listings and photos, messages sent through chat, reviews, reports, and basic usage data such as page views and device type.
- Why: to run your account, show listings, let users contact each other, keep the platform safe, and show sellers simple shop statistics.
- Messages: chats are stored on our servers. Administrators may review them when investigating a report or when required by law.
- Service providers: we use trusted companies to run CampusMarket. Images, videos and uploaded documents are stored with Cloudinary. Your phone number is shared with our SMS provider, Robase, so we can text you verification codes, password-reset codes and alerts about missed calls, messages and orders. Our database is hosted with MongoDB Atlas, our API server runs on Render, and the website is delivered through Tencent EdgeOne. These providers only process data on our behalf, and some of them may store it on servers outside Nigeria. We do not sell your personal data.
- Your rights: you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, subject to the law. We handle personal data in line with applicable Nigerian data protection law.
- Other users can see what you put on your public profile, shop and listings. Do not post details you want to keep private.
9. Changes, law and contact
We may update these Terms; continuing to use CampusMarket after a change means you accept it. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Questions, complaints and data requests: campusfounder@gmail.com.
